What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS support where a person with a disability lives with other people.
Supported Independent Living refers to daily support from Support Workers to ensure you have the best chance to live as independently as possible.
Supported Independent Living provides:
- Cleaning and laundry
- Nutrition and cooking
- Personal care such as showering and dressing
- Going to appointments
- Taking medication
- Taking up a hobby
- Learning to catch public transport.
There are 3 levels of support for SIL:
-
Lower support needs – This level of support is for people who might need supervision with daily activities, but is usually not on a 24/7 basis.
-
Standard support needs – This level of support works on a 24/7 basis and will help with overseeing a variety of daily tasks. Carers or support staff can sleep over in accommodation so support is close at hand.
-
Complex support need – This level of support works on a 24/7 basis and supports individuals with continual assistance throughout the day for personal care and complex medical needs.
Why should I choose Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living is a great way to feel more independent, while having easy access to your supports.
Depending on your situation, we can either help you find appropriate housing, work with your existing housing provider, or support you in your own home.
Our Disability Support Workers can be there 24/7 or they can provide day-to-day assistance. All our accommodation is designed to make you feel comfortable, safe and at home.
People in the NCP+ SIL program are encouraged to be involved in the developing of House Rules and the Employment of Staff in their home.
We’d love for you to get in touch with us to discuss what you’re looking for and how we can support you.
